Everybody wants to be a rock (or country) star. Even actors and pro athletes wish they were rock stars because rock stars get away with everything. But just because they do get away with everything doesn’t mean they should be able to.
According to Rolling Stone magazine, here’s a rundown of some of the most annoying rock star behaviors: (Country Stars are guilty too!)
1/ Showing up ridiculously late
2/ Touring without key band members
3/ Playing too much from the new album in concert
4/ Never varying the setlist
5/ Playing long, long solos
6/ Squeezing every possible penny out of fans
What bands come to mind when you read that list? Lonestar (above right), and Alabama (above left) are among those guilty of #2 right off the bat with Lonestar parting ways with then rehiring Richie McDonald and Alabama without long-time drummer Mark Herndon. Number 3 used to be acceptable, after all why are you touring if not to support the new cd. But some of the older bands may limit the number of new cuts to one or two while relying on the hits to fill the set list. Some are guilty of #4 particularly Kenny Chesney...the same songs in the same place year after year. I've noticed that most are also masters at #6. Come to think of it most are guilty of all of the above. Only once have I seen an act get on stage excessively late, and that was a older country act (Mark Chesnutt at the Renaissance theatre)
You've paid good money for concert tickets, what acts have disappointed you in one or more of the above ways?
