Taylor Swift; she's seemingly had more boyfriends than Imelda Marcos had shoes. (look her up) Wow! Her track record is enough to make one join the seminary. Now either she's sampling men like she would chocolates in a variety box; ignoring some, devouring others and taking a little nibble of a few and tossing aside the ones she decides she doesn't like. Or, she really does fall head over heals only to get her heart shattered and leaving her with fodder for another hit song.
I'm leaning towards the former. It's as if she has a catalog of single men or simply a wish list that's she's checking off one by one. "Which one should I try next?" she might say to herself. I say this not out of jealousy, but more like a worried father might feel. One one hand I should trust her to make the right decisions while I hope and pray she's being safe. After all I consider her a true role model for young artists and how they should make their way to the top of the music world. And all indicators point to her being quite friendly and generous to her staff, her band and to her fans. But on the other hand I am concerned that this high profile speed dating will take it's toll. How is this behavior effecting her mentally? How it effects her emotionally is easy to determine by listening to her songs. I imagine her hosting a VH1 Storytellers episode and all she'd have to say before each song would be "I wrote this one about a boy that broke my heart". Songwriters write about what they know and have experienced. I'd like to see her write a song about something other than her latest failed relationship.
It's bothersome that we hear through gossip rags and TMZ style reports each new man she's interested in. Two weeks ago I heard she wanted to date Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper. Cooper immediately shot that down stating the age difference and her dating record as reasons. And since there appears to be no hope for her and Harry Styles rekindling their high profile romance, she has reportedly set her sites on a member of the folk-rock band The Lumineers. I haven't heard which member and she might not even know as a couple of the guys are very similar in looks.
None of this should be any concern of mine. I do care, however, because this merry-go-round of celebrity boyfriends is casting a dark shadow over a terrific career. One side of Taylor Swift is a serial dating machine, the other is a fantastic song writer and muscian, and imaginative performer. I can only hope that her legion of impressionable young fans is getting the right message.
