I just heard someone gave their baby boy the name "HashTag"! Whether they'll spell it out or just use the symbol "#" was not announced. Another set of parents, apparently fans of the internet, named their son "Link"...not short for Lincoln...but like what allows you to connect with sites on the internet. Ridiculous!
Celebrities tend to be quite creative when it comes to naming their children. Moon Unit Zappa comes to mind. Bruce Willis has daughters by the name of Scout and Rumor. Gwyneth Paltrow named her daughter Apple. And Uma Thurmon burdened her daughter with this mouthful Rosalind Arusha Arkadina Altalune Florence Thurman-Busson. (Flo for short ?)
While giving a child a unusual moniker can be considered a way to give the child a unique identity and make them feel special. It can also set them up for some unpleasant days on the playground.
The reason I mention this at all is because I'm going to be a Grandpa next Summer, and some names for the bundle of joy have been suggested. So far they are all perfectly suitable, respectable, and relatively easy to say and spell.
If you are expecting a child, here's a list of the most popular baby names of 2012 for you to choose from.
