My wife and I are going to be Grandparents! That's right, my Daughter Sara and her husband Justin are expecting a baby, due in late June! We are pretty excited to say the least. The kids told us the good news back in mid October but asked us to keep it a secret from the rest of the family until Thanksgiving. While gathered at the table and saying what we are thankful for, Sara and Justin spoke last and made the big announcement.
This got us wondering about what we'd like to be called. Now we understand what the child says is what we'll go with, but for now we'll examine the options. I like G-Paw and G-Maw. Paw-Paw would work for me, Gramps and Granny are o-k, Grandmaster Gramps has some street cred and I'm fond og G-Diddy. Like I said it's up to the kid.
I called my grandparents Grandma Peg and Grandpa Bob (Appleby). My Mom's parents passed when I was very young. My daughter called my Mom "Dammaw" and my niece called her "Mugga". Hey, that's alright. I called my Aunt Jeannie "Mimi" because i couldn't say Jeannie. We ALL call her Mimi to this day.
Like most Grandparents I'll acccept whatever the child calls me...as long as it's nice and as long as they at least CALL me!
